Our Story

The Show Gallery Lowertown is a collaboration between two founding partner organizations- The Show NonProfit and MSS, a nonprofit organization serving adults with disabilities in the Twin Cities.

On a visit to MSS’ Eagan location, Winna Bernard, an artist, social worker, and President of The Show Nonprofit, was inspired to create a unique art space after seeing a beautiful piece of pottery. The piece was created by an artist who used a paint brush attached to a headband to apply the glaze and took six months to finish. As a social worker for over 20 years, she was tired of seeing beautiful pieces of art work created by artists with disabilities not being represented in art galleries in the Twin Cities. Winna invited the team from MSS, including MSS’ VP of Programs Michelle Dickerson, to lunch where they started piecing their vision together. Dickerson, who founded the MSS Art Program in 1999, and had always dreamed of a gallery where artists with disabilities could show their work in a professional setting.

The timing was right, as a space opened up in the former JAX building, and The Show Gallery Lowertown was created. The gallery provides artists of all abilities a place to promote and sell their work in the heart of St. Paul’s art district, Lowertown.
